Welcome to Your Home School Review!

If you are considering enrolling your child in Home School,

then you should think about the following...

Your child should feel comfortable and relaxed in his educational setting. As his parent, you know best how to meet his needs. You have know this child for more years than any one else.  His needs include academic as well as emotional and social.  What about moral or religious goals set by your family?  Is it best to not confuse your child with exposure to those children from homes with different values. Consider Home School - an environment that you can control. Think about your goals for your learners. What are you able to provide financially and psychologically. How much time can you allocate to preparing for the daily lessons?  Do you have the ability to maintain balance in your life and avoid burn out. Create a valueable educational experience in your home for your learner.

Consider the development of the total child.

Here are several questions to ask yourself before beginning the home school. What are the emotional, social and academic benefits of enrolling your child in Home School? Have you considered the implications of all three factors?

New to Home School?

  • Begin with setting a daily Schedule.
  • Customize curriculum to meet the learners' needs
  • Develop themes for high interest learning
  • Important credentials for a home school teacher?
  • Integrate appropriate school technology into learning
  • Train the learner to be critical thinker
  • Improve critical study skills to develop self directed and motivated learning
  • Reading and Writing basics are very important
  • Mathematical sense and Science Inquiry skills
  • Three dimensional projects
  • Content related field trips for experiential learning
  • Do research - shadow experienced homeschools in the area, view their typical day

1.Emotional reasons to consider: Children learn best when they feel safe, happy and comfortable. At school, if your child is worried or frightened at school, then his learning will be impaired.

Which style of Homeschool will best suit the learner?

Typical home school structures include the following:

  • Traditional is similar to public school
  • Unit Studies develop learning around a theme
  • Classical involve studying a fixed set of skills
  • Eclectic is a mix of each of these
  • Unschooling has the learner find his own way
  • Religious based has a religious theme
  • Internet learning is based on the computer.

2.Social reasons to consider: You might like to have control over your child’s social interactions.  In a public school, your child will have social interactions with many different children from a wide variety of backgrounds. If you have particular moral or religious values.

Ponder whether to homeschool your learner.

  • Unhappy with the local public school
  • Political or spiritual beliefs are not reinforced at school and should be emphasized more.
  • Take charge of appropriate social interactions.
  • Customize the learning to meet the learners needs.
  •

3. Academic reasons to consider: Emphasize a particular piece of curriculum. Perhaps you feel that reading is most important, or that your child is very interested in math or science. You can spend more time teaching and exploring in the academic area that suits your child best.

Providing an enriching Home School experience for your child is not about how many college degrees you have,  where you attended school, or even how successful your were in school -back in the day. If you are motivated to teach, and can understand what makes the learner motivated to participate in their learning, then you are on the way to Your Homeschool.  Find the right educational material and experiences to provide a wonderful education for the learner at Your HomeSchool.

It is LEGAL. Homeschooling parents should know that homeschooling is legal.  Paper work and requirements from one state to the next vary. Find out what your state requires and get started. Over a million children are homeschooled every year in the United States.  You are not alone.

Congratulations!
You have made the decision to Home School your child! You will need to register your child with your local school district and then file an application form with the district to apply for Home-Schooling. They might ask you to submit a proposal for Your Home-School Curriculum as well. This website and others will be able to help you with designing a Home School Curriculum that will best meet your child’s needs. Let the learning begin!

Get Ready.

Get Organized.

You need to gather some supplies. Decide upon a space to base your Home School. Space could be as simple as your kitchen table or a separate room in your house designated for the Home School.  Once the local school district has reviewed and approved your application, you will be ready to begin. This process should take about a month.
